The Hon Warren Entsch MP

Parliamentary Secretary

 Warren Entsch is currently the Federal Member for Leichhardt and was appointed as the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Industry, Science and Resources in 1998, a position he still holds under the Industry, Tourism and Resources portfolio.

The areas of responsibility he covers for the Minister are:
• Geoscience Australia - the national agency for geoscience research and information. GA's research and information contributes to enhanced economic, social and environmental benefits to the community by providing input for decisions that impact upon resource use, management of the environment, and the safety and well-being of Australians.
• IP Australia - the national agency responsible for patents, trade marks, designs and plant breeders' rights.
• Assisting the Minister for Tourism on regional tourism issues, with specific responsibility for ecotourism and Indigenous tourism.
• Civil Space Issues - including the formation of a legislative and regulatory regime to support a number of proposed commercial rocket launch projects.
• Responsibility for a number of industry Action Agendas including:
  Restaurant and Catering Industry;
  Aerospace Industry;
  Spatial Information Industry;
  Marine Industries;
  Advanced Manufacturing; and
  Medical Devices Industry
  
Mr Entsch also has responsibility for the administration of the Petroleum (Submerged Lands) Act 1967; Country of origin labelling; National Measurement Institute; and administration of export controls on energy sources.

During his first term in office, Mr Entsch was Chairman of the Joint Statutory Committee on Native Title and Aboriginal Land Fund. Between 1996 and 1998 he was a member of the House of Representatives Joint Standing Committee on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Affairs and Joint Standing Committee on Environment, Recreation and the Arts.

Before entering Parliament, Mr Entsch was a grazier and company director. He has also been an aircraft engine fitter, maintenance fitter and welder, real estate developer, and crocodile catcher and farmer. He served with the Royal Australian Air Force from 1969 until 1978.

His personal interests are just as diverse as his professional, and include horse riding, art, aviculture and bushwalking. But his biggest love, aside from his family, is his Harley Davidson.
